Special Considerations

How To Finish Your Open Water Diver Course in Hawaii
How It Works
- You complete all of the academic sessions, confined water sessions, and final exam at your home dive shop.
- Your instructor will process your referral certification on the mySSI app
- Give us a call to schedule your two days of open water dives.
- Together, we will do four open water dives, heading out on the dive boat, and applying everything you learned. Each dive trip includes two dives, and each dive includes practice on all the fundamentals. You also get plenty of time to check out the incredible coral gardens and marine life. You are almost guaranteed to see a sea turtle with us: we see them almost every day, along with thousands of colorful reef fish!
Timeline
- The academic and confined water sessions are done with you local dive shop, on their timeline.
- Over two days are the open water dives. These days are usually consecutive, but we can always work with you to fit your schedule. The dives are done off of the boat, we’ll do two dives each day.

Open Water Diver Certification
Upon completion of all open water requirements, your instructor will issue the Open Water Diver certification card.
Certified Open Water Divers can dive with an equally- or more-qualified buddy in environments equivalent to their training, and within the recommended depth limits. Students younger than 15 years old will be certified as Junior Open Water Diver. They must dive under the direct supervision of a dive professional or with a certified adult, in environments equivalent to their training, and within the recommended depth limits.
What To Bring
- All you need is a swimsuit for the first day: all of the dive gear is included!
- If you bring a change of clothes for after class, there are beach showers and restrooms.
- If you already own personal gear, like mask, snorkels, or fins, bring them. You’ll be more comfortable in your own gear.
- You can bring a towel, sunglasses & maybe a hat for the boat trips (we have a dry storage area).
- Bring your underwater camera & its waterproof casing to get the best shots!
- We provide drinking water, fresh pineapple & snacks, but you can also bring your own.
Certification Agency Options
Our instructors are active status in three different scuba training agencies.
What’s a training agency? They are the guys who actually write the text books and print certification cards. All reputable agencies fall under the umbrella of the World Recreational Scuba Training Counsel and as such, their standards are pretty much the same. In the end, scuba diving is scuba diving, and it doesn’t really matter what brand is printed on your card.
