Special Considerations

  • The minimum age is 10 years old.
  • Must be Open Water certified
  • You must complete a medical questionnaire and may need a doctor’s approval if you have any disqualifying conditions.
  • When scheduling your dives, allow at least 18 hours after diving before flying. This is important — you cannot fly the same day after scuba diving.

They Don’t Just Eat Pizza

Sea turtles are definitely one of the most popular animals in the ocean! Luckily, we have lots of them here in Hawaii, especially the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle.

This Sea Turtle ecology program provides an in-depth understanding of their fascinating life:
  • their anatomy and physiology
  • life cycles
  • their annual migrations
  • threatened or endangered statuses
  • how human activities affect them
  • how to identify different species
  • their behaviors and life cycle
  • the importance of protecting sea turtles as a critical species to the ocean
  • their importance to ocean tourism and diving

How It Works

In the e-Learning, you will learn about the seven different species of Sea Turtles, their life histories, and threats both natural and man made.  Then, we jump on the boat and go find some in real life. Don’t worry, they don’t all live in the sewer.

Timeline

This course can be done on any of our boat charters. We typically prefer the 11 am Coral Reef dives as they provide a more casual experience that is better suited to observing turtles in their natural habitat.

Sea Turtle Ecology Certification

Upon completion of all academic and open water requirements, your instructor will issue the Sea Turtle Ecology certification card.

These logged dives and certification will count to your next recognition rating of Advanced Open Water or Master Diver

What To Bring

  • All you need is a swimsuit for the first day: all of the dive gear is included!
    •  If you bring a change of clothes for after class, there are beach showers and restrooms.
  • If you already own personal gear, like mask, snorkels, or fins, bring them. You’ll be more comfortable in your own gear.
  • You can bring a towel, sunglasses & maybe a hat for the boat trips (we have a dry storage area).
  • Bring your underwater camera & its waterproof casing to get the best shots!
  • We provide drinking water, fresh pineapple & snacks, but you can also bring your own.
