Special Considerations

  • The minimum age is 12 years old.
  • Must be Open Water certified
  • You must complete a medical questionnaire and may need a doctor’s approval if you have any disqualifying conditions.
  • When scheduling your dives, allow at least 18 hours after diving before flying. This is important — you cannot fly the same day after scuba diving.

You Dropped It, Now Go Find It

In this Search and Recovery dive specialty course, you learn how to effectively and efficiently locate items lost underwater and how to safely bring them back to the surface!

To safely plan and conduct Search and Recovery dives, you will learn about:
  • conducting search patterns
  • creating specialized dive plans
  • advanced underwater communication
  • how to recover small to medium-sized objects using lift bags
  • other specialized search and recovery dive equipment

How It Works

The e-Learning covers a lot of the planning and effectively organizing a search and recovery operation.  The in water sessions is when we put these theories into practice.  We will review compass use, and how to use them for search patterns, as well as how to safely use a lift bag.

Timeline

Day one is a confined water session where we practice search patterns and introduce lift bag procedures.
Day two is a practical application of these skills in an open water environment.

Search and Recovery Certification

Upon completion of all academic and open water requirements, your instructor will issue the Search and Recovery certification card.

These logged dives and certification will count to your next recognition rating of Advanced Open Water or Master Diver

What To Bring

  • All you need is a swimsuit for the first day: all of the dive gear is included!
    •  If you bring a change of clothes for after class, there are beach showers and restrooms.
  • If you already own personal gear, like mask, snorkels, or fins, bring them. You’ll be more comfortable in your own gear.
  • You can bring a towel, sunglasses & maybe a hat for the boat trips (we have a dry storage area).
  • Bring your underwater camera & its waterproof casing to get the best shots!
  • We provide drinking water, fresh pineapple & snacks, but you can also bring your own.
